Setting up sidechain compression in Nuendo
Setting up sidechain compression in Nuendo I haven’t seen a tutorial on setting up a sidechain in Nuendo. I even looked through Nuendo’s manual. No such tutorial. So here goes this Peter Dzoghi tutorial With “sidechain compression” you canapply a volume pumping effect to a track such as a constant keyboard part. This effect is very popular with trance music. This effect is not just limited to ducking volume levels on keyboard tracks though. There are many applications.
For example you might want to use sidechain compression to turn down the levels of other instruments when vocals are heard. I haven’t found any tutorials online specifically for Nuendo so I thought I’d give this a try. You don’t have to do it in the exact order that I am doing in this tutorial.
Peter Dzoghi instructions: Just use Nuendo’s bundled compressor. Then click on the sidechain button which is colored light orange in this image Note that the “Threshold” will be used to later control how much of the sidechain compression that you use.
This add the compression effects track that we previously created. Be sure to select the compression listed under “Outputs”. Turn the Group Channel volume fader down to zero. Click on the pre-fader button which is colored light orange in the image below. Kick drums are typically used at each quarter note. In this example the keyboard track that I want to effect with sidechain compression is audio track 2. Create a send to Group 1. Turn the volume fader down to zero. Create a send to compressor — NOT the sidechain compressor listed under “Outputs”.
